Missing the point

Today’s post is a little bit different from my usual posts but I need to take it out of my chest.

As you know, I am not a mom and, since I do not own a magical crystal ball that works, I do not know if I’ll ever be one. However, I fiercely believe that mothers love their children and that they will always do for them whatever feels right, and they will never do something to intentionally hurt them. Note: I know that there are mentally unstable women out there that drown their children for revenge, or shake them to death so they can play FarmVille but I’m not talking about them.

Anyways, the other day I was on Twitter and man! Can some moms be bullies opinionated! And it just gets my panties in a knot infuriates me! Mom A was telling Mom B that Kid B’s sleeping habits were wrong for his age. Here is the whole scenario:

  • 5-year-old A goes to bed at 8pm and wakes up at 8am.
  • 5-year-old B goes to bed at 6pm and wakes up at 6am.
  • Correct me if I’m wrong but that means that both kids are getting the same amount of sleep. A’s arguments were:

  • Kid B is going to bed too early and he’s not getting enough sleep!
  • Kid B is waking up too early, he should be able to get up later, he’s not getting enough sleep!
  • When B said that she was going to put Kid B for a nap from 5pm to 6pm so he could be wide awake for an activity that goes from 6:30pm to 7:30 pm. A replied “at that age, he doesn’t need a nap”

Dude! If I’m going to do an activity that last well past my regular bed time I, at 31 years of age, take a nap! Why wouldn’t a 5-year-old do so as well?

    Whatever.

Days later I met Mom B in real life and I commented that the whole thing had upset me and I said “it bothers me when moms tell other moms how to raise their children, and all the constant judgement between mothers. Every mom is different and she’s doing what’s best for her child. Enough with the judgement!” (I might had been talking louder than usual and my face might had been a bit red… and maybe, just maybe, my hands were moving everywhere)

She very seriously replied “I know, it’s sad all the judgement that goes around. I ignore it because I know I’m doing what’s best for our situation. Besides, Mom A is a bad mom, she’s always on Twitter!”

    *sigh*

Hopefully, next time my little “righteous” speech will not have its point missed 😉 Until then:

    Happy ramblings!
